Since Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative took on the fight against polio, we have developed systems to facilitate both immunizations and eradication. This infrastructure helps get us closer to a polio-free world. But did you know that it’s used to fight and protect against other diseases, too?

In May of 2019, the Rotary Club of Surprise Sunset sponsored its first student through the Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona (TRVFA) program. TRVFA partners with Rotary Clubs in Arizona to provide assistance to the working poor in obtaining an education up to an Associate Degree. Pierre Nkunzimana was awarded a one-year educational grant of $2,000 for his pursuance in the Licensed Practical Nursing program at East Valley Institute of Technology in Mesa.

Prior to receiving approval for the grant, Pierre underwent a qualification process which included both a grant application, which determined his eligibility, followed by an in-person interview with several of our club's executive team. Happily, Pierre passed with flying colors and expressed his strong desire and passion to complete the nursing program as soon as possible.

During the new Rotary Club of Surprise Sunset's charter ceremony on April 2, the club's new president Kathy Linton showed a video on the Rotary Four-Way Test.

What makes this so unique, is that this video was totally created by 11-year-old Jacob Stuckey, grandson of club member Dick Stuckey.

Apparently, Jacob visits his grandparents every summer and thoroughly enjoys attending Rotary meetings with his grandfather. He was so enamored and impressed with Rotary -- and especially the value of the Four-Way Test -- that he created this video on his own and posted it at YouTube:  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qDAfaK1jUO8&rel=0
